Clear disclosures about what information we gather, how it is safeguarded, and the boundaries of data access.
Data Disclosure•Effective September 2026
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the essential account information necessary to register your account, route communications, and reliably deliver services:
Primary Phone Number: Used as your unique identifier for account creation, SMS authentication, and login verification.
Profile Details: Display name, custom username (@handle), optional avatar photograph, and biographical text you choose to provide.
Contact Connections: Phone numbers you choose to connect with to initiate chats and verify mutual connections.
2. Security & Operational Metadata
To protect account security and prevent unauthorized access, our backend systems record specific technical metadata:
Authentication Timestamps: Login times, last-active indicators, and password-change timestamps.
Session & Device Records: Active device session tokens, operating system types, and IP addresses used during login events.
Transmission Metadata: Message delivery state indicators (sent, delivered, read status) and routing identifiers needed for network delivery.
3. Message Content vs. Routing Metadata
It is important to distinguish between the content of what you write and the technical metadata that routes your message:
Message Content: The text, media, and attachments you transmit to conversation partners.
Routing Metadata: Sender ID, recipient ID, timestamp, and message payload size required for server queues to route data correctly.
4. Company Access Boundaries
We believe in direct, transparent disclosures regarding what company systems and personnel can access:
What We Access: Authorized engineers and safety personnel can inspect account registration status, security audit logs, reported message payloads submitted through user reports, and diagnostic error traces.
What We Never Do: We do not conduct casual or unauthorized browsing of private conversations. Access to stored message queues is strictly governed by internal access controls and reserved for delivery processing, law enforcement compliance, or safety report reviews.
5. Zero Sale of Personal Data
Bias does not sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal information, phone number, contact list, or message metadata to third-party data brokers, marketing agencies, or advertisers.
Data collected by Bias is used strictly to operate, maintain, protect, and refine the communications service.
